Frequently asked questions about M3U playlist validation

What is an M3U playlist and how does the validator work?
An M3U playlist is a text file containing a list of stream URLs, used by IPTV apps like TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi, and VLC. Our M3U checker tests each URL in your playlist by sending a real request from your browser, then reports which channels are online, slow, or dead β€” without storing any data on our servers.
Why are my IPTV channels showing as dead or timing out?
Dead channels usually mean the stream URL has expired, the server is down, or your ISP is blocking the connection. If most of your channels show as dead, try using a VPN to bypass ISP restrictions. If only a few are dead, contact your IPTV provider for an updated playlist.
What do Online, Slow, Blocked, Timeout and Dead mean?
Online: the stream answered with video or a valid HLS playlist in under 3 seconds. Slow: it works but took more than 3 seconds to respond, which usually means buffering. Blocked: the server refused access (HTTP 401, 403 or 451), typically a geo-block, an ISP block or an expired subscription. Timeout: no answer within the time limit. Dead: the link is broken, the server is offline, or it returns a web page instead of video.
How do I fix M3U links that are not working?
First, use this M3U checker to identify which specific channels are dead. For a few dead links, contact your IPTV provider. If most links are failing, try: 1) refreshing your M3U URL from your provider's portal, 2) connecting through a VPN in case your ISP is blocking streams, or 3) switching to a different IPTV provider.
Can I download only the working channels from my playlist?
Yes. After the check is complete, click the "Export working channels" button to download a new M3U file containing only the active and reachable channels. You can then import this cleaned playlist into TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi, or any other IPTV player.
Is my playlist data safe? Does the validator store my URLs?
Your playlist stays private. When you run a check, our server fetches the playlist and tests each stream URL in real time, only to tell you whether it works. Playlists, stream URLs and credentials are never saved to a database, never logged and never shared with anyone. Pasted playlists are parsed in your browser; only the stream URLs are sent for testing.

How to check an M3U playlist online

  1. Load your playlist. Paste the M3U or M3U8 content, drop a .m3u file, or enter the playlist URL your IPTV provider gave you. Xtream Codes get.php links work too.
  2. Run the check. Our server opens every stream and reads the first few kilobytes, the same way an IPTV player would, and times how fast it answers.
  3. Export the working channels. Download a clean playlist with only the channels that work and load it into TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi or VLC.

What the results mean

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
OnlineThe stream answered with video or a valid HLS playlist in under 3 seconds.Nothing — it works.
SlowIt works but took more than 3 seconds to respond.Expect buffering at peak hours. Try another server or check for ISP throttling.
BlockedThe server refused access (HTTP 401, 403 or 451).Usually a geo-block, an ISP block or an expired subscription. Here is how to tell if your ISP is blocking IPTV.
TimeoutNo answer within the time limit. The server is overloaded or offline. Check again later with a longer timeout.
DeadBroken link, server offline, or it returns a web page instead of video.Remove it from your list or ask your provider for an updated playlist.

Works with M3U, M3U8 and Xtream Codes links

M3U and M3U8 are the same playlist format: M3U8 is simply UTF-8 encoded and is also used for HLS streams. The checker reads both, plus playlist links generated by Xtream Codes panels (get.php?username=…&password=…&type=m3u_plus). To check the account itself (status, expiry date, connections), use the Xtream Codes checker; to inspect a single HLS stream and its quality variants, use the M3U8 checker. If you need your playlist in another format, the M3U converter exports it to XSPF, JSON, CSV or TXT in one click. New to playlists? Start with what an M3U link is and how to play an M3U file in VLC.

Why do IPTV channels stop working?

Most failing channels fall into four groups: the provider changed the stream URL, the subscription expired, the channel is geo-restricted, or your internet provider is filtering IPTV traffic. The first two show up as Dead or Blocked on every connection. If a playlist works on mobile data but fails on your home Wi-Fi, the cause is usually your ISP, and routing the traffic through a VPN normally fixes it.
