M3U Checker Extension – Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 2, 2026

This policy explains what the M3U Checker & M3U8 Player browser extension does with your data. In short: it collects no personal information, uses no cookies or analytics, and stores nothing on our servers.

What the extension sends

  • Playlist checks: when you click “Check”, the extension sends the playlist URL you entered (or right-clicked) and the channel URLs it contains to m3uchecker.com, which tests whether each stream responds and returns the result. These URLs are processed in memory to answer your request and are not stored, logged with your identity or shared.
  • Playback: when you play a stream, your browser connects directly to the server that hosts that stream. m3uchecker.com is not involved.

What the extension stores

Only the last URL you typed in the popup, saved locally in your browser (chrome.storage) so you don’t have to paste it again. You can clear it by removing the extension.

Permissions

  • contextMenus: adds “Check with M3U Checker” and “Play with M3U8 Player” to the right-click menu.
  • activeTab and scripting: only when you click “Find playlists on this page”, reads the links on the current tab to list .m3u and .m3u8 URLs. Nothing is read in the background.
  • storage: remembers the last URL you typed.
  • Access to m3uchecker.com: needed to check playlists.
  • Optional access to a stream’s website: requested only when you choose to play a stream from that site, and only for that site.

What we don’t do

We don’t collect your browsing history, personal data, IP-based profiles or account details. We don’t sell or transfer data to third parties. The extension does not host, provide or promote any playlists or content; it only tests and plays URLs that you supply.
